Huseyin is a legal strategist specialised in intellectual property, innovation and state aid policies, with around fifteen years of experience in European and international legal practice and policy-making. Currently, he is the senior legal officer for legislative and policy advice in patent and technology law at the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Following his legal studies at the University of Nottingham, he joined the European Commission in 2008 where he spent a majority of his career. Until recently, he coordinated the European Commission’s expert panel on state aid in the field of research, development and innovation, and assisted in the restructuring of several European innovation ecosystems. In parallel, he also advised the EU Institutions on intellectual property rights, particularly regarding technological IP, licensing, corporate governance and strategic multi-jurisdictional interventions.
Over the last decade, he led the IP governance reform at the European Commission, creating the Institution’s Central IP Service and IPR Network. He contributed to numerous EU policies, legislation and initiatives, including major financing instruments such as Horizon 2020. Formerly, he served as the director of CX6 Ltd, a London-based consulting firm.
A Cypriot national by birth, he is fluent in English and Turkish at native level, and a keen public speaker. He has a working level knowledge of French and an intermediate knowledge of German.
